Section 1 Personal & Professional Development prompt questions
This reflective writing section is further split into three sub-sections. Each of the sub-sections should be approximately equal in length (so no more than c.400 words). Each sub-section will focus on reflection in a specific area, based on the following prompt questions.
Section 1a.
Choose one (or two) of Mintzbergs management roles* (see pg. 20 of Effective Management by Sternad) and reflect on the development of your capabilities in this (these) area(s) across this module.
* by this I mean one of the ten managerial roles (e.g. negotiator, resource handler) and not the role groupings (e.g. informational roles).
Section 1b.
Reflect on your goal hierarchy and results of the survey. What have you learned about yourself as a result of these two items?
Section 1c.
Briefly, where do you see yourself in 5 years time? Which of the Top 15 skills for 2025 listed in the WEF The Future of Jobs Report 2020 do you feel you will need to continue to develop beyond the programme in order to reach your goal, and how will you go about this? Please be specific about the actions you will take.
Section 2 Team-working prompt questions
This reflective writing section is further split into three sub-sections. Each of the sub-sections should be approximately equal in length (so no more than c.400 words). Each sub-section will focus on reflection in a specific area, based on the following prompt questions.
Section 2a.
Based on your own experiences (and using scholarly literature to back this up) what are the main challenges of working in a diverse team? Please outline one incident from your own experience in this module to illustrate one of these challenges.
Section 2b.
Using your experience of team working in this module, respond to the following using the STAR technique. (This is typical of a competence based interview question asked by employers.)
Provide an example of a time when you displayed strong team working skills.
Section 2c.
Based on the feedback you have received from your team members in this module, and your operating manual, what do you think are the main strengths you display as a team member, and how are these recognised by others?
Further notes
Details of Section 3 will be provided by my colleague Stacey Mottershaw by week 8
The work is marked anonymously; please do not enter you own name or the name of anyone else in the work. If you need to refer to a team member please given them a pseudonym or you can refer to them by a letter, for example team member A.
Your group poster is completed by week 8
Feedback will be collected from your team members in week 8 and returned to you by the close of week 9 at the very latest. You will include this feedback in the work (but it does not form part of your word count)
Your business league table position will be confirmed by the start of week 10
Please note that you do not need to include section 5 in your document it is based on data that I will already have
Please do not include any appendices; these will not be marked
Please do not include an introduction or conclusion
You do not need to write the prompt questions into your work
You must remember to write your team name on the work; if you do not do this I will be unable to allocate the marks associated with your teams position and poster and therefore for those sections your mark would be 0. Your team name is the name of an area of Leeds, NOT your business name.
Please only include references in the reference list that you have used in Sections 1 to 3; there is no need to include references for the poster (as I will already have these on the electronic copy of your poster)
There is no perfect number of references to include in the work; I expect some (no less than 3) but not many (no more than 15). Reflective work does not rely on scholarly evidence and references should only be used where they enhance the work.
Ive tried here to cover the main questions that are asked about assessment on this module, but if you have any additional questions then please post them to the Minerva Discussion Board.
