Week 3 Assignment: Recycled Inventory
Part 1 Linen Par
The Xavier Hotel has 400 guestrooms:

· 166 King Rooms, each with one king bed

· 139 Queen Rooms, each with two queen beds

· 95 Junior Suites, each with one king bed and one queen-sized pullout couch

You have been asked to determine the amount of linen needed for one house par, which is the quantity of linen needed to set all the beds and bathrooms in the hotel with one set of linens. You have also been asked to determine the total cost of one house par of linen.

In the attached Excel file, open the tab called “Linen Par.” You will find a table that lists all of the linen items, as well as the quantity of each item needed per bed or guestroom. Your first step is to determine:

1. the quantity of each item in 1 par,

2. how many dozens of each item are in 1 par,

3. the cost per dozen of each item, and

4. the cost for 1 par of each item.

1. Follow these steps to determine the quantity of each item in 1 par:

a. For king bed linens:

· Number of king beds × Quantity needed per king bed = Quantity in 1 par

b. For queen bed linens:

· Number of queen beds × Quantity needed per queen bed = Quantity in 1 par

c. For bath linens:

· Number of guestrooms × Quantity needed per guestroom = Quantity in 1 par

2. Follow these steps to determine how many dozens of each item are in 1 par:

· Quantity in 1 par ÷ 12 = Dozens in 1 par

3. Follow these steps to determine the cost per dozen of each item:

· Explore the websites of hotel supply companies, such as Hotel Linen Source or American Hotel Register, to determine the cost per dozen of each item

4. Follow these steps to determine the cost for 1 par of each item:

· Dozens in 1 par × Cost per dozen = Cost for 1 par

Your next step is to calculate the total cost of one house par of linen. You will need to add together the costs for 1 par of all of the items.

As you work through these calculations, enter the quantities and costs in the table on the “Linen Par” tab in Excel.

Part 2 Westin Heavenly Bed Inventory
The Xavier Hotel has decided to purchase enough inventory of Westin Heavenly Bedding to outfit 210 king beds. You have been asked to determine the quantity of each bedding item that the hotel needs to order and also to calculate the associated costs.

In the attached Excel file, open the tab called “Westin Heavenly Bedding.” You will find a table that lists all of the bedding items, the quantity of each item needed per bed, the pars required in inventory for each item, and the cost per item. Your first step is to determine:

1. the quantity of each item in 1 par,

2. the total quantity required for each item, and

3. the total cost for the required inventory for each item.

1. Follow these steps to determine the quantity of each item in 1 par:

· Number of king beds × Quantity needed per bed = Quantity in 1 par

2. Follow these steps to determine the total quantity required for each item:

· Quantity in 1 par × Pars required in inventory = Total quantity required

3. Follow these steps to determine the total cost for the required inventory for each item:

· Total quantity required × Cost per item = Total cost for required inventory

Your next step is to calculate the total cost to outfit all 210 king beds with Westin Heavenly Bedding. You will need to add together the total costs for the required inventory of all of the items.

As you work through these calculations, enter the quantities and costs in the table on the “Westin Heavenly Bedding” tab in Excel.

Submit your completed Excel file.
