Final Project: The Mission of Jesus Christ (The Paschal Mystery)

Final Project: The Mission of Jesus Christ (The Paschal Mystery)

Final Project The Mission of Jesus Christ (The Paschal Mystery)

This project is worth 15% of your grade (240 points). It is both an individual project and a small group project. It is divided into two parts: 1st a Google Slide presentation; and 2nd an individual paper.

This project is to help you recall the material covered this semester and begin to review for the final. Therefore, the material presented should be drawn out from the course itself. Stay close to the material covered in class and you will be helping yourself, your group, and the class review for the final.

You and your group will use one of the Covenants in the Old Testament and one of the Luminous Mysteries to show how they both ‘point to’ or ‘are fulfilled by’ Jesus’ Paschal Mystery.

1–Pick one of the Old Testament Covenants from Unit 3 (Presentations will be in the O. T. order):

Abraham and the Covenant (Gen. 15) Moses and the Sinai Covenant (Ex. 19-20)

Joshua and the Covenant (Jos 24:13-28) David and the Covenant (2 Sam 7:8-17)

Elijah and the Priests of Baal (1 Kings 18) Elijah and at Mount Horeb (1 Kings 19)

Suffering Servant songs (4 Songs in Isaiah) The Exile and the Covenant (Ezek 2:1-3:4 or 37:1-14)

Jonah and the Covenant (Jonah; Jer. 51:34; Is. 42:6) The Expectations of the Messiah (many)

2–Pick one of the Luminous Mysteries from Unit 4:

The Baptism of Jesus The Wedding at Cana The Proclamation of the Kingdom

The Transfiguration The Institution of the Eucharist

3–Show how the O.T. Covenant and the Luminous Mystery point to Jesus’ Paschal Mystery (death & resurrection).

The whole group is required to be actively participating in the presentation. Both the preparation and the presenting. The individual paper is not presented; but will help you understand the theme so you can write and present well.

Google Slide Presentation (160 Points)

The Slide Presentation Itself:

Presents your theme accurately and is based on the material covered in class

Has Scripture Quotes, Catechism Quotes, and Pictures relevant to the theme (and required-note the plural)

I will check how much work each person did – Ballance – no real editing then no presenting

There is no sound effects or music or videos in the Presentation

Your Presentation of the Slides to the Class:

Each person looks and sounds like they know what they are talking about

You do not simply read the material but explain or expand on it – you may use separate notes

You are paying attention during other groups presentations or you will lose points

The Individual Paper (80 points)

The paper must be at least a page and a half double spaced

You must use Times New Roman or similar font and 10, 11, or 12 font size.

Title, name, headings, do not count towards the length.

The margins are to be 1 inch all around and no extra spaces between paragraphs.

Use good grammar and run spell check before turning it in

You must quote relevant passages from both the Bible and the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

In addition, you may use the textbook and other class materials.

Do not use the internet or outside sources – you will lose points.
