In Chapter 1, you read about the concepts of face, identity, and an assortment of terms that go with them. In this Reflection and Analysis paper, you will define, describe, and give examples of these concepts and how they relate to each other.

PREPARATION
• Before you begin writing, take some time to review the terms you must include in this paper.
Consider some identities you construct on a daily basis and how you can use these terms to explain the process.
WRITING
• Start by explaining the concepts of identity, identity construction, altercastina. face, facework. and discursive practices. Use the book (cited!) and your own words to define the concepts, describe how they are related to each other, and give examples. Note: Face and identity are different concepts. People often get them confused. Make sure you distinguish them and are describing them correctly!
• Then, use a scenario from your own life to demonstrate these concepts in action. Think of a situation in which it was important how your conversational partners perceived you. What was the situation? How did you feel about it? What exactly was said? (Remember, we’re focused on talk.) Explain what discursive practices you used to present yourself and how these constructed your identities and altercasted conversational partners. What did they say in response? How did their responses construct them and you?

o Page Length: 3-4 full pages
o Style: Essay (your paper should be structured with a distinct beginning, middle, and end)
° Format: Your paper should follow basic APA formatting, including:
• A heading (do not include a title page)
• Identifying information (i.e., your name, class name, instructor’s name, and date) in the upper
