Please answer the following questions below in a word document, or PDF or Google document, and email your completed exam to me by 6 pm on Sunday, 6/6/2021. I will NOT accept late exams. This exam is worth 45 points. Please make sure that you answer each question in 3-5 full paragraphs, with details, and no errors in spelling and grammar. You need to answer all parts of the questions. Please do not use informal or casual language as that is not appropriate in college writing. I am hoping that you will honor the integrity of the course and NOT Google answers or use open book and open notes or this exam. All the same rules and regulations originally stated in the syllabus apply.
You have the option of doing the extra credit essay question I have for you below for 5 extra points. If you want to receive the full 5 extra credit points, you will also have to answer that question in 3-5 paragraphs, with details, and no errors in spelling and grammar. Doing the least amount of work just to get by whether it is on the required essay questions, or the extra credit question is not going to be adequate.

2. What is the Presidential Succession Act of 1947? What does it accomplish? Why is it the law? How is it different from the 25th amendment of the US Constitution? (Chapter 10 Worth 9 Points)
3. What is the Pendleton Act of 1883? What is the Hatch Act of 1939? Why was the spoils system replaced by the merit system? How do the above two acts impact presidential appointments? (Chapter 11 Worth 9 Points)
4. What are the five important considerations for the US president when he/she is making a judicial appointment to the US Supreme Court? What role does the US Congress play in this process? What is life tenure for the US Supreme Court justices entail? (Chapter 12 Worth 9 Points)
5. What is jurisdiction? What is original jurisdiction? What is appellate jurisdiction? What types of disputes require original jurisdiction for the US Supreme Court and where is that stated in the US Constitution? (Chapter 12- Worth 9 Points)

Who was the first woman to ever be appointed to the United States Supreme Court as a justice? Which president appointed her? When? How did her entrance into the federal judiciary change the trajectory of this branch and make way for other women justices in the years to come? What challenges did she face at first?
