PERSUASIVE SPEECH
On the date assigned in class, you will present an 8-9 minutes speech to persuade the audience on a claim of policy. You must deal with all three basic issues of policy speeches, need, plan, and practicality. Also, be sure to take a clear stand on the issue you are presenting.
On the day of your presentation, please submit (all typed, please):
1. The speech outline, which must also include the general purpose, specific purpose, thesis statement.
2. References: used in the preparation of the speech (a minimum of eight (8) sources (each article, book, is considered (1) source unless it contains articles from multiple authors. Interviews with experts or peers are also acceptable sources). If you do not cite your sources orally during the speech, you will receive an F on the assignment. No exceptions. The references need to be cited within the outline, as well (end notes or foot notes). Finally, you must submit, in writing, a full bibliography. There should be a separate bibliography for any pictures/videos, etc. you may use, as well.
3. One to two pages audience analysis paper that explains how you used the information (demographic and psychological) you gathered from the audience to construct your speech.
*Please turn in everything (outline, bibliography, and audience analysis) in class on the day of your speech (there will be a deduction of a letter grade if you do not).
*Speeches must be presented at the appointed time and day. If you are unprepared or not present when scheduled to speak, you will receive an automatic 0. If you have a verifiable, documented reason for missing your speech (and if there is time left in the semester) you may be allowed to present on a case-by-case basis.
